The clients for this property built this residence for their retirement, following the principles of Passivhaus to create a very energy efficient green new build home.  The full certification was not applied for but the unit built to the highest levels to reduce energy consumption and introduce maximum sunlight, the overhanging green roof provided for natural summer shading but allowed solar gain during winter when the sun traverses a lower path.
